About us
Founded in 1975, the Hong Kong Chamber Music Society (HKCMS) is one of the city’s oldest non-profit music organizations. For nearly half a century, we have remained dedicated to presenting exquisite chamber and solo performances in intimate, elegant settings—inviting audiences to rediscover the beauty and depth of classical music.

What’s On
HKCMS 2026 concert series features the late Romantic and early modern repertoire plus some special surprises.
The Rising Star and Her Guiding Star
15 jun, 2026 (mon)
Together with HKCMS, Hannah Tam and Warren Lee invite listeners into the private world of Johannes Brahms’s complete violin sonatas. Rather than grand orchestral drama, these works offer something more personal – intricate dialogue between violin and piano and a spectrum of emotion that moves from tender nostalgia to storm tossed passion. Heard together in a single evening, the three sonatas trace a remarkable journey through Brahms’s mature style.
A Vocal Celebration of Love and Longing
8 sep, 2026 (tue)
Love takes many forms in this evocative evening of song at The Ladies’ Recreation Club, where mezzo-soprano Samantha Chong, soprano Phoebe Tam and pianist John Lee reunite for a much-anticipated return to the LRC stage. Following their celebrated 50th anniversary collaboration, Phoebe Tam and John Lee join forces once again with Samantha Chong in a brand-new programme tracing love from moonlit longing and youthful innocence to heartbreak, desire and remembrance.
The Fabulous Five: Love’s Joy and Heartache
28 SEP, 2026 (MON)
Hong Kong’s leading vocalists Samantha Chong (mezzo‑soprano) and Phoebe Tam (soprano) join Sinfonietta musicians Laurent Perrin, James Cuddeford, and pianist Colleen Lee for their first collaboration. The programme celebrates opera’s timeless love stories, from Massenet’s Cendrillon and Bizet’s Carmen to Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and La Bohème, alongside Shostakovich’s Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok and Schubert’s luminous Notturno.
Celebrating Our 50th Anniversary: A Milestone for HKCMS
In 2025, the Hong Kong Chamber Music Society proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary—a remarkable milestone in our journey of sharing music with the community. For half a century, we have witnessed the evolution of Hong Kong’s classical music scene, offering audiences moments of beauty, reflection, and connection through the art of chamber music.
Since our founding in 1975, we have stayed true to our mission: presenting high-quality chamber performances in an intimate and elegant setting, preserving the timeless tradition of European salon concerts.
Along the way, we have collaborated with world-class artists and supported emerging local talent, breathing new life into the city’s musical landscape.
This anniversary is not only a celebration of the past, but a new beginning. With renewed passion, we look ahead—committed to making chamber music ever more accessible, inspiring, and relevant to future generations.
To all our supporters, performers, and audiences: thank you for walking this journey with us. It is your presence that has made these fifty years so meaningful.

From Then to Now: Stories Through the Years
In celebration of our journey, we’ve gathered heartfelt memories and reflections from old friends who have been part of our musical story. Their words remind us of the joy, passion, and lasting connections that chamber music brings.
HKCMS is a testament to the passion, determination and resourcefulness of many people.

A typical HKCMS event is part recital, part intimate get-together with friends and music lovers over good food and drinks.
Ilari KAILA
Composer
Unlike a symphony orchestra, there is no conductor. Everyone must know exactly what the others are thinking. A glance or gesture can communicate everything. This makes chamber music very personal, intuitive, and also enjoyable for the audience, who can sit very close and feel what we feel.

In the old days, the key represents some emotional characters, like C major is purity and sincerity, and E-flat major represents love and devotion. So we like to choose Haydn and Mendelssohn’s pieces to express our gratitude to CMS for your devotion to chamber music.

Romer String Quartet
Compared to the grandeur of symphonic music, chamber music is small-scale, intimate, and deeply personal. That’s why I love it, and why I’m so glad we can celebrate chamber music together with CMS’s 50th anniversary.
