About the musicians

Andrew Simon, clarinet [full description]
Andrew Simon, Principal Clarinet of the Hong Kong Philharmonic since 1988 and a Juilliard graduate, is renowned for his virtuosity and musicianship, with a global performance career that includes premieres of significant works and acclaimed recordings such as HOT and Ebony and Ivory. He teaches at major institutions in Hong Kong and lectures internationally, and during COVID-19, he created the popular online series “Andy’s Licorice Talk.” Notably, Simon is the first American-born musician to perform in North Korea and is recognized for his adventurous spirit beyond music.

Warren Lee, piano [full description]
Warren Lee, praised as a “first-rate artist” by American Record Guide, has performed globally with leading orchestras and debuted with the Hong Kong Philharmonic at age six. A Steinway Artist since 2009, he has won top prizes including the 1995 Stravinsky Awards and Grand Prix Ivo Pogorelich, released 11 acclaimed albums, and excelled as a composer, educator, and cultural leader. Honored with Hong Kong’s Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award (2012), a Royal Academy of Music Associateship (2015), and Yale’s Ian Mininberg Distinguished Alumni Award (2017), Lee also holds multiple postgraduate degrees in business, sports and media law, and international property law.
