About the musicians:

The Helsyd Piano Trio brings together three very special musicians and long-time friends. After their studies at the Sibelius Academy, their respective careers have led them into all kinds of collaborative projects in many significant musical venues, and eventually to live in different corners of the world. Their schedules seldom line up, but when the three find themselves in the same place at the same time and can enjoy making music together, something magical is always in the air. Now, they have decided that those rare moments are worth seriously focusing on, and making less rare – hence, the birth and inaugural tour of the Helsyd Piano Trio.
Eriikka Maalismaa (Violinist) is one of the most active musicians in the Finnish music scene. She performs regularly at festivals at home and abroad, arranges concerts, and designs programs for her multiple ensembles. She was the assistant concert master of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra from 2006 to 2016, and continues her career as a soloist and chamber musician. She plays frequently as the orchestral leader and concertmaster with the Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Avanti Chamber Orchestra, and the Jousia Ensemble, and performs as a guest artist with the European Chamber Orchestra. Eriikka also plays in the Avanti String Quartet, the Tristero Piano Trio, the Ristiveto Collective, and the Helsyd Piano Trio. Together with Emil Holmström, she curates the Classical Hietsu concert series in Helsinki.
Timo-Veikko “Tipi” Valve (Cellist) is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation, performing as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader on both modern and period instruments. Valve studied at the Sibelius Academy in his native Helsinki and at the Edsberg Music Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, focusing on solo performance and chamber music in both institutions. In 2006, Valve was appointed Principal Cello of the Australian Chamber Orchestra with whom he frequently appears as soloist. He also curates the ACO’s chamber music series in Sydney. Tipi is a founding member of the Jousia Ensemble and Jousia Quartet.
Emil Holmström (Pianist) has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and lied accompanist throughout Europe, the Americas, Japan, and Australia. He appears frequently at Finnish music festivals and concert series and has been a featured soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. An ardent champion of new music, Holmström is a member of Finnish groups defunensemble, the Uusinta Ensemble, and the Tristero Piano Trio, and plays as a regular guest with the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra. He has worked as a recording artist for Alba Records and the Finnish Broadcasting Company, and made numerous world premiere recordings. He runs the Ristiveto Collective, which specializes in performing late 19th-century music on period instruments.
